The so-called Hizb ut-Tahrir trial held without lawyers

May 21, 2020

On Wednesday, May 20, in the Southern District Military Court of the city of Rostov-on-Don, a court session was held in the so-called Krasnohvardiiske Hizb ut-Tahrir case without lawyers, as they participated in another trial at the same time. It is reported by the Crimean Solidarity public association.

“A few days ago, we learned that the court session in the so-called Krasnohvardiiske Hizb ut-Tahrir case was rescheduled for May 20 at 10 a.m. The defense party informed the court in advance that this date was not possible, as the defenders will participate in another criminal process. The defense side filed a motion to postpone the hearing, which the court did not satisfy and held the trial in the so-called Krasnohvardiiske Hizb ut-Tahrir case in the absence of defense counsel by agreement”,- said lawyer Lilya Hemedzhi.

It is noted that the evidence obtained during the trial should be recognized as unacceptable evidence, and this process, in fact, violates the right to defense of the three defendants in the so-called case.

We remind that on February 14, 2019, Russian security forces conducted mass searches in the dwellings of Crimean Tatars in the village of Oktyabrske of Krasnohvardiisk district. Three men were detained and taken to the FSB. Criminal proceedings were instituted against them on suspicion of organizing and participating in the activities of the Hizb ut-Tahrir organization banned in the Russian Federation.

On February 15, the so-called Kyiv District Court of Simferopol arrested Eskender Abdulhaniev, Rustem Emiruseinov and Arsen Abkhairov detained after the aforementioned search on suspicion of their participation in the Hizb ut-Tahrir organization, which is banned in Russia.
