Eskender Bariiev, Head of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, member of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, said in an interview with the Krym.Realii media agency that the deportation of the Crimean Tatar people is still an incomplete international crime that has no statute of limitations. The Crimean Tatar Resource Center is working with 36 states to recognize the deportation of 1944 as an act of genocide. Such recognition will demonstrate solidarity with the Crimean Tatar people, which is especially important in the context of today’s crimes in the occupied Crimea.

“76 years ago, the communist regime committed a crime against humanity, the purpose of which was the extermination of the Crimean Tatars – the indigenous people of Crimea. It is still an incomplete (lasting) international crime without statute of limitations. At the same time, Ukraine has the proper material and procedural jurisdiction for its investigation and final qualification,”,- he stressed out.

Eskender Bariiev said that the Crimean Tatar Resource Center is working with 36 states to recognize the deportation of 1944 as an act of genocide. Recognition of the deportation of the Crimean Tatar people as an act of genocide by the parliaments of various states will become a locomotive for condemning the crimes of the Soviet communist regime.

“Do not forget that tens and hundreds of thousands of representatives of the peoples of Eastern and Central Europe were also deported by the Communists. It is important to remember the crimes committed by the Russian invaders today in Crimea. And, of course, such recognition will demonstrate solidarity with the Crimean Tatar people”,- the expert added.
