The #PrisonersVoice initiative launched an event in defense of prisoners of the Kremlin. Activists urge international organizations such as the UN, OSCE and the Council of Europe to exert pressure on Russia to immediately release all political prisoners in the occupied Crimea and Russia. This was reported via the initiative page on Facebook.
It is noted that many civilized, democratic countries, in the context of the coronavirus pandemic, already from the beginning of spring adopted recommendations to reduce the number of prisoners in prisons. These measures should prevent outbreaks of the virus in prisons, where they can be disastrous.
“Our initiative created a petition on the popular Change.org resource, in which we call on international organizations such as the UN, OSCE and the Council of Europe to exert pressure on Russia to immediately release all political prisoners in the occupied Crimea and Russia, as well as use actual control, which Russia is exercising over part of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, for the immediate release of all people illegally deprived of liberty there”,- the statement said.
