On Friday, April 17, lawyer Lilia Hemedzhi visited the civil journalist Nariman Memediminov in pre-trial detention center #1 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Rostov Region. The political prisoner noted that in the context of the coronavirus pandemic, they carry out the processing of cameras on their own. They were given a special remedy for this, but what kind of remedy remains unknown to him. It is reported by the Crimean solidarity public initiative.
The lawyer notes that during the meeting they talked about the spread of coronavirus infection and keeping people in places of captivity, as well as measures taken by the pre-trial detention center to ensure the safety of these people in places of captivity.
“The convicts conduct the processing of the cell on their own. He specified that they were given a bottle of the product for surface treatment, for washing hands. But what kind of product it is remains unknown to him. The product has no smell and color, but according to the pre-trial detention center administration, it is intended to treat the surface in conditions of the spread of infection”,- said Lilia Hemedzhi.
The political prisoner looks good, he has a fighter’s spirit. He is preparing to participate in the court of appeal to examine the complaint against the verdict of the Southern District Military Court.
Two years ago, on March 22, Russian security officials ransacked the dwelling of an activist of Crimean Solidarity, a civil journalist Nariman Memediminov in the village of Kholmivka, Bakhchisaray district. On October 2, the Southern District Military Court sentenced the journalist to 2 years and 6 months of imprisonment in a penal colony, and also banned his administration of the websites for two years. For two years now, Memedeminov has been illegally detained.
According to his wife, the search was carried out in a harsh manner, security officials broke down the front door and used obscene words. The man himself was detained on suspicion of public calls for terrorist activities. In relation to Nariman Memedeminov, the right to a fair trial was repeatedly violated, in particular, the period of detention was regularly extended and rejected appeals. The right to the healthcare access was also violated. On September 27, in the North Caucasus District Military Court, the “prosecutor” demanded to sentence the civil journalist Nariman Memedeminov to six years in prison.
