The Consul General of Ukraine in Rostov-on-Don Taras Malyshevsky visited the Crimean Tatar political prisoners in Russian pre-trial detention centers. His motive for an urgent visit to the defendants in these so-called illegal cases was concern about their health and moral and psychological condition, which could be affected by the situation with the spread of coronavirus. This was reported by the Crimean solidarity public initiative.
The Consul General noted that he could not see only Arsen Dzhepparov, who continues to be detained in jail #4 in Shakhty. He talked with the defendants of the so-called Yalta group, all the defendants of the so-called second Bakhchisaray group, as well as with Nariman Memedeminov, Oleh Prykhodko and Enver Seitosmanov.
“My motivation for an urgent visit to our citizens was concern about their health and moral and psychological condition, which could be affected by the situation with the fight against COVID-19. I do not exclude that the Federal Penitentiary Service in the Rostov Region may completely close subordinate institutions to special orders – for a term of a few weeks or more. That is, neither lawyers, nor relatives and dates, nor the transfers brought – this is the prospect of the near future”,- he explained.
The Consulate General reports on small material payments to Crimean political prisoners, which they plan to conduct next week.
In addition, all the political prisoners conveyed sincere gratitude for all the support provided to them and their families; for letters that come from Europe and North America; lawyers and human rights defenders – for the presence on the international platforms of issues of criminal prosecution of Ukrainian citizens in Russia for political and religious beliefs.
