The European Union condemns the spring draft of the inhabitants of Crimea to the military service of Russia, as this is a violation of international humanitarian law. This was reported in a statement by the EU External Relations Service.

“This is a violation of international humanitarian law. Russia is obliged by the requirements of international law and is obliged to protect human rights on the peninsula”,- the statement outlined.

The EU recalls that it does not recognize the illegal annexation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol. In addition, the EU continues to expect that Russia will stop all violations of international law on the Crimean peninsula.
