The Office of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia for the occupied Crimea and Sevastopol denies information about the inadequate conditions of detention in the pre-trial detention center of political prisoner Sergey Filatov. The jailers claim that he is not kept in a crowded cell and goes out into the fresh air daily. This was reported by the Crimea.Realities media agency.

“The convict is kept in a pre-trial detention center for 12 people, along with him there are 10 more people in this room. Also, according to the order of the Ministry of Justice of Russia dated October 14, 2005 N 189 “On approval of the internal regulations of pre-trial detention centers of the penitentiary system” , the suspects and the convicts enjoy a daily walk of at least one hour. Such walks are provided to people in the Simferopol pre-trial detention center daily”,- the FPSR said.

We remind that in November 2018 in Dzhankoy, FSB officers conducted mass searches of people suspected of participating in the religious organization Jehovah's Witnesses, banned in Russia. The head of the local regional group of Witnesses Syvash, Sergey Filatov, was detained. He is suspected of organizing an extremist community. The Syvash group itself was eliminated back in 2017. On March 5, the so-called Dzhankoy District Court sentenced Sergey Filatov to 6 years in a penal colony with a 1 year of probation for organizing and participating in the Jehovah's Witnesses local organization.
