In Moscow, an attorney letter sent by the Crimean Tatar Ametkhan Umerov, who was detained on July 11 under the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, was stolen from the post office of the “Russian Post”. The man sent the document to the Russian human rights project “Legal Initiative” to represent his interests in the ECHR. This was reported by Graty outlet.
Ksenia Babich, the spokeswoman for the Legal Initiative organization, noted that the letter with the documents had arrived in the mail on March 10 and that morning an unknown person picked it up.
"Our employee wrote a statement to the Russian Post about the loss of the letter that she had to pick up upon presentation of her passport. Russian Post refused to say who took the letter or to show the signature of the recipient. This is strange and we suspect that the letter was taken by law enforcement officials", said Babich.
Previously, on July 10, Crimean Tatar activists took part in a protest rally on Red Square in Moscow against the persecution of Crimean Tatars in occupied Crimea. Participants unfurled posters with the words "Stop persecution on ethnic and religious grounds," "The fight against terrorism in Crimea is a fight against dissent," "Our children are not terrorists." After the picket began, Russian police detained seven people. On July 11, near the building of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, where the appeal of the defendants of the first Bakhchisaray “Hizb ut-Tahrir case” was examined, the Russian police detained 46 people who came to support their compatriots.
