On Friday, February 14, Human Rights Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Liudmyla Denisova met with the mother of the Simferopol “Hizb ut-Tahrir case” detainees Teymur and Uzeir Abdullaev. Political prisoners’ health deteriorated: Teymur suffered a stroke, and Uzeir suffered heart and kidney problems. This was reported by Denisova on her page on Facebook.
“In particular, Teymur Abdullaev suffered a stroke in the summer of 2019. He did not receive proper treatment, and this can cause a relapse. Uzeir Abdullaev has serious problems with his heart and kidneys. All necessary medical certificates confirming these diseases were transferred to the prison authorities for receiving medical assistance. However, the treatment was not provided to Uzeir Abdullaev either, according to the report.
Denisova noted that the cases of political prisoners are under her personal control and she takes urgent measures for each violation of their rights.
“I ask representatives of international human rights organizations and the diplomatic corps to support Ukraine and victims’ relatives in this fight, because our guys should return home as soon as possible”,- she added.
We remind that on October 12, 2016, Russian security forces detained five representatives of the indigenous Crimean Tatar people – Uzeir Abdullaev, Teymur Abdullaev, Rustem Ismailov, Emil Dzhemadenov and Ayder Saledinov in the village of Strogonovka of the Simferopol region as a result of mass searches. They were accused of their membership in the Hizb ut-Tahrir organization banned in the Russian Federation. He was charged with article 205.5 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("organizing the activities of a terrorist organization and participating in it").
On June 18, 2019, the North Caucasian District Military Court of the Russian Federation sentenced individuals involved in the Simferopol “Hizb ut-Tahrir case” to jail. Teymur Abdullaev was sentenced to 17 years in a maximum security penal colony, Rustem Ismailov – to 14 years, Uzeir Abdullaev – to 13, Ayder Saledinov and Emil Dzhemadenov – to 12 years.
On December 24, 2019, the Supreme Court in Moscow reduced the terms of imprisonment of the Simferopol “Hizb ut-Tahrir case” defentants by 6 months.
