On Tuesday, February 4, at the Embassy of Ukraine in Ireland, a meeting was held with the Chargé d’Affaires of Ukraine in Ireland, Olena Shaloput. Those who were present discussed the possibility of holding events with the participation of Irish deputies aimed at adopting a law analogous of the Magnitsky Act in Ireland, as well as recognition of the deportation of the Crimean Tatar people by the Irish Parliament as genocide. This was announced by one of the participants of the meeting, Head of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, member of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Eskender Bariiev on his Facebook page.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Minister for Veterans, Temporarily Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons of Ukraine Oleksandr Tereshchenko and his wife Larisa, Chairman of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, member of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Eskender Bariiev, External Relations Manager of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center Zarema Bariieva, and Chairman of the Association of Ukrainians of Ireland Nikolay Krutsik.
At the meeting, they discussed ways of cooperation between the Embassy of Ukraine in Ireland, the Association of Ukrainians in Ireland, the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, and the Crimean Tatar Resource Center.
"In the light of parliamentary elections in Ireland on February 8, 2020, the participants discussed the possibility of holding events engaging newly elected deputies aimed at adopting a law analogous of the Magnitsky Act in Ireland to introduce personal sanctions against Russian officials, committing crimes in the occupied Crimea, as well as the recognition by the Irish Parliament of the deportation of the Crimean Tatar people as genocide," Eskender Bariiev wrote.
Although the Crimean Tatar Resource Center has already sent a package of documents recognizing the deportation of the Crimean Tatar people as genocide to the Oireachtas (Parliament) of Ireland on June 12, 2019, Eskender Bariiev once again handed over this package of documents to the Oireachtas (Parliament) of Ireland, as well as a T-shirt with the #LiberateCrimea symbolics to the Chargé d'Affaires of Ukraine in Ireland Olena Shaloput.
