December 2, 2019

Lawyer Nazim Sheikhmambetov during a monthly meeting of Crimean Solidarity held a speech dedicated to the health problems of the elderly political prisoners, in particular, Shaban Umerov, Servet Gaziev, Enver Omerov, Asan Yanikov and Dzhemil Gafarov.

“So it happened that all my clients are elderly people: Edem Ağa Smailov, Oleg Prykhodko, Shaban Umerov  and, unfortunately, these very people are most at risk of getting health problems in conditions of the pre-trial detention center. And what we are observing today unfortunately confirms this”,- claimed Nazim Sheikhmambetov.

In particular, the lawyer spoke about serious diseases of his clients – Shaban Umerov, Servet Gaziev, Enver Omerov, Asan Yanikov and Dzhemil Gafarov.

1. Shaban Umerov – complaints of unbearable burning pain in the heart. There is no way to measure blood pressure. Accordingly, he does not know, what kind of pills should be taken, either from high or low blood pressure. Due to aforementioned his relatives do not know what medications need to be sent. In jail conditions, his cellmates share pills with him.

2. Gaziev Servet – pain in the intestines and heart, high blood pressure (the situation is the same as Umerov’s, there is no way to measure his blood pressure), the pain in his leg is so strong that he has to drag it along when walking. Currently he takes painkillers that his relatives send him. Examination with subsequent treatment is not carried out.

3. Omerov Enver – needs urgent surgery, takes medications that are sent by his relatives. But even these medications do not entirely remove the need for an emergency surgery. He is also worried about chronic tonsillitis.

4. Yanikov Asan – problems with the stomach, intestinal obstruction, heart problem (incomplete blockade of the bundle of His), coin-shaped eczema. He is currently detained in Krasnodar.

5. Gafarov Dzhemil – in a very critical condition. Needs urgent hospitalization. Dialysis or kidney replacement is necessary. Has a third disability group. Worried by gout, due to increased urea. Failure to provide timely medical care could inevitably lead to irreversible consequences, including death.

He also added that they all underwent transferring more than once, after which their health condition significantly deteriorated.
