December 2, 2019

After the defendant in the second Bakhchysarai “Hizb ut-Tahrir case” Memet Belyalov was transported to Rostov-on-Don, he was placed in a punishment cell for 1,5 days because of the incriminated “article”. Now the political prisoner is held in the special block of the pre-trial detention center. This was reported by his wife Edie on her Facebook page.

“They gave us only 1 hour 35 minutes. When we said that we were supposed to talk for 2 hours, they told us: “Your time is up, enjoy what you have”. From the first to the last second, the smile did not leave Memet’s face. It was very difficult to communicate, the phone didn’t work, and when we asked to transfer us to another booth, they answered: “Not allowed!” When we raised our voices to hear through the glass, we were told to be quiet and not to disturb other people”, the message says.

His wife noted that after the defendants were transferred from Krasnodar to Rostov, Memet Belyalov was put in a punishment cell for one and a half days. When he asked why, the convoy told him: "Your article presumes this”.

“After, he was transferred to a special unit, where he is held up to today. A few days after the transfer, he had a very bad poisoning and could not recover for a long time. Now he feels better, he works out and reads a lot,” she added.

Previously, on 11 October 2017, in Bakhchysarai, occupants held mass searches in six Crimean Tatar houses, Marlen Asanov, Seyran Saliiev, Timur Ibrahimov, Memet Belyalov, Ernest Ametov, Server Zakiryaev. All were detained and charged with the article 205.5 Criminal Code of RF “participation in an organization that is recognized as terrorist by Russia legislature”.

On 21 May 2018, in the occupied Crimea, Russian security forces conducted mass searches in the houses of “Crimean Solidarity” activists, whereby two Crimean Tatars, Server Mustafayev and Edem Smailov, were detained. They are also charged with participation in “Hizb-ut-Tahrir” that is illegal in Russia.

In February 2019, the criminal case was opened against eight defendants, Marlen Asanov, Seyran Saliiev, Timur Ibrahimov, Memet Belyalov, Ernest Ametov, Server Zakiryaev, Server Mustafayev, and Edem Smailov, charging them with article 278 Criminal Code of RF (violent seizure of power).

On 5 March, it became known that two defendants, Timur Ibrahimov and Memet Belyalov, received even more severe charges (article 205.5 Criminal Code, “participation in terrorist organization” and first part “organization of terrorist activity).
