The Crimean Tatar Resource Center team designed a new booklet in English about political prisoners of Crimea. It contains information (photo, date of birth, place of residence, occupation, date of detention, reason, accusation, and quotes from the fellow citizens / family members or the last words of the political prisoners in the courts) about 98 prisoners who were detained or convicted on the territory of the occupied Crimea. The data is systematized by criminal “cases”.
According to the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, presently there are 98 political prisoners in Crimea: 87 of them are held in pre-trial detention centers and prisons in the occupied Crimea and the Russian Federation, and 11 are sentenced to probation. Out of 98 people, 79 are representatives of the indigenous Crimean Tatar people.
Each person in this booklet can rightfully be claimed to be a subject of politically motivated and unlawful criminal proceedings.
We urge the international community and international human rights organizations to increase pressure on the Russian Federation and the occupation authorities in Crimea in order to end political persecution and abolish previous court decisions.
This booklet will be widely distributed at various international platforms among diplomats, politicians and public figures to inform about the situation with human rights violations in Crimea.
The Crimean Tatar Resource Center expresses its gratitude to the activists of the Crimean Tatar national movement and to the relatives of the political prisoners in Crimea for their assistance in collecting information.
The booklet was designed by the Crimean Tatar Resource Center with the support of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom in Ukraine.
