Bariev: “The return of political prisoners to Ukraine is the victory of their relatives”

September 9, 2019

Eskender Bariiev, Head of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, Member of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, commented the release of Ukrainian hostages from the Russian Federation in his interview to the ATR TV channel, claiming that the return of Ukrainian political prisoners is a true victory of their relatives.

"Today (the 7th of September) is a victory for the relatives of those political prisoners and POWs who returned to their homeland. And this is the point. This is really a victory for those human rights defenders who worked in this field, a victory for all those people who took an active part in it", – outlined the Head of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center.

Speaking about the lists of political prisoners exchanged, Eskender Bariiev emphasized that the Russian Federation got rid of the people who were considered as the most toxic to Putin, who were mentioned within the European Parliament, at all the international venues, including Sentsov, Balukh and, of course, Edem Bekirov.

"Russian state has one goal: to suspend the sanction policy that is strangling it, to get rid of those political prisoners, which are well-known to every MP of the European Parliament, and to get rid of POW sailors", – claimed Member of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People.

We remind you that on the 7th of September, at the Kyiv Boryspil airport, an airplane landed with 24 POWs and 11 political prisoners who were illegally detained in Russian prisons and pre-trial detention centers. All of the prisoners were released within an exchange of prisoners between Ukraine and Russia.
