According to the Russian Statistics Service in Crimea Krymstat, a natural population decline continues in the occupied Crimea and amounted to 4.4 thousand people in January-May 2019. This indicator is reportedly 15% higher of the same period in 2018 and is a result of the decline in birth rates by 4%, and the increase in mortality rates by 2%.
“In January-May 2019, the number of births in Crimea amounted to more than seven thousand people, which is still lower than the number of deaths – twelve thousand people. Therefore, the mortality rate is 1.6 times higher than the birth rate”, – the report said.
Reportedly, none of the regions in Crimea has the number of births exceeding the number of deaths. Among the leading causes of deaths are circulatory system diseases – 57%, oncology – 15%, and external causes of death – 6%.
According to Krymstat, in January-May 2019, the number of children who died before the age of 1 increased by 16 and amounted to 39 people, compared to the same period last year. The main causes of death among children under the age of 1 remain individual conditions that occur in the perinatal period – 46% of all deceased children of this age, as well as congenital anomalies – 13%.
