Occupation authorities want to demolish the church of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Evpatoria

March 12, 2019

The occupation authorities of Crimea began to issue orders to the church of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Evpatoria about its illegal construction and thus demanding to demolish it. This was reported by the archbishop Evstratiy (Zorya) of Chernigov and Nezhinsky Ukrainian Orthodox Church, reports UNN news agency.

"Recently, in Evpatoria, they started issuing orders to the church as if it is supposedly illegally built and therefore it should  be demolished", – he reported.

According to the archbishop, the situation with respect to religious communities and temples of Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Crimea remains steadily difficult, because the actions of the occupation authorities are unpredictable.

At the same time, the Archbishop of the Crimean Diocese of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, Klement, in his comments for Krym.Realii confirmed that he had been formally asked about the building of the church in Yevpatoria. He noted that he had transferred all the necessary documents to the "department for improvement".

According to him, because of the Russian annexation of Crimea, the building of the church in Evpatoria could not  have been legitimized to the end. It is currently unknown what decision the Russian authorities in Crimea will make regarding this church.
