Zelenskyy signed a decree ‘On the territories of the Russian Federation historically inhabited by Ukrainians’

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree On the territories of the Russian Federation historically inhabited by Ukrainians. He announced this in his congratulations on the occasion of Unity Day.

“Today we must take steps not only to strengthen the unity of Ukraine and our people, but also for the unity of rights and freedoms, the truth about Ukrainians, the truth about us and the truth about our history. For this purpose, today I signed a decree On the territories of the Russian Federation historically inhabited by Ukrainians”,- he said.

In addition, the president said that he was already submitting a bill to parliament to introduce the institution of multiple citizenship.

According to the decree, the government was instructed to develop an action plan to preserve the national identity of Ukrainians in the Russian Federation. The development process should involve international experts, scientists, representatives of the Ukrainian World Congress and the public. The result will later be submitted to the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.

The issue of investigating crimes committed against Ukrainians who lived or are still living in Russian territories historically inhabited by ethnic Ukrainians will also be explored.
