A petition appeared on the website of the Electronic Petitions of the Kyiv City Council to rename the Zaslonov Street into the Hennadii Afanasiev Street.
“Konstantin Zaslonov Street was determined by the decision of the Kyiv City Council as one of the objects of city subordination, the names of which are associated with the Russian Federation and / or its allies (satellites), subject to renaming. Konstantin Zaslonov was an employee of the NKVD who has lived and worked all his life on the territory of Russia and Belarus. His figure has nothing to do with the city of Kyiv or Ukraine”,- the petition says.
Hennadii Afanasiev was an activist in the resistance to the Russian occupation of Crimea in 2014, and after a full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022, he became a volunteer in the Armed Forces of Ukraine and died on December 18, 2022 near the village of Bilohorivka, Luhansk region.
The Crimean Tatar Resource Center supports this initiative and calls for attention to the de-russification of Ukrainian cities.
