Video hosting YouTube does not work both through the home Internet in the web version and through the mobile Internet in the occupied Crimea . This was reported by a local resident in the commentary ‘Suspilne Crimea’.
It is known that the platform stopped working completely in the morning of 8 August. The day before, according to him, YouTube opened, but the videos were downloaded only after switching on the VPN.
Earlier the Crimean branch of the international movement for the deoccupation of Crimea #Liberatecrimea ‘Suspilne Crimea’ said that the number of Crimeans who download VPN services to continue to use YouTube – is increasing.
‘According to our observations, even the blocking of such popular social networks as Facebook and Instagram by the Russian occupation authorities in Crimea has not caused anywhere near the number of Crimeans who start using VPNs as it happened after YouTube slowdown. Crimeans are mostly not ready to give up watching their favourite channels that they have been watching for years,’ t-he activists said.
A local resident noted that problems with the YouTube platform had been observed since last week.
