But why is the 1944 deportation a genocide of the Crimean Tatar people?

The purpose of this criminal act was the destruction of an entire nation. In total, about 238,500 people were affected by the deportation, and 46.2% of all deportees died in the first years of exile. In addition, the Soviet authorities did everything to destroy the language, culture, history and traditions of the Crimean Tatar people.
