Where do occupiers torture Ukrainians in the newly occupied territories?

July 8, 2024

In the newly occupied territories of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions, the rf continues to illegally hold local residents in torture centres. Where are these places of unfreedom?

According to the Crimean Tatar Resource Centre, at least 15 such torture centres have been recorded:

At the beginning of the Russian Federation’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the invaders set up a torture room in Genichesk, converting College  No. 17 for this purpose.

In Nova Kakhovka, the occupants also created a torture room in the basement of School No. 14.
In April 2022, in Kherson, the occupants created an analogue of the Donetsk prison “Isolation” to torture Ukrainians.
In January 2023, it became known that the Russian occupants set up two torture centres in one of the villages of the temporarily occupied Skadovsk district.
In January 2023, it became known that the Russians had set up a torture room in the building of the former Hornostayevskyy District Department of the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Kherson region.
In March 2023, Russian occupants set up a new torture room in the south-eastern part of Energodar, Zaporizhzhia region.
In June 2023, Russian occupants set up a torture room on the territory of a school in the village of Bolshie Kopani, Kherson region.
In April 2024, it became known that Russian invaders set up a torture room in the basement of the house of culture in Odradovka village, Novotroitsk community, Kherson region.
In April 2024, it became known that five torture centres were operating in the temporarily occupied Melitopol region.
In these places, the Russian occupiers are holding the pro-Ukrainian population in inhuman conditions. They interrogate these people, treat them cruelly and torture them.
According to the CTRC, the occupants constantly hold “preventive talks”, as was the case, in particular, with the basement of  college No. 17 in Genichesk. There, people are forced to shout “Putin is the president of the world, and Zelensky is a h@ilo”, otherwise they use force and can be taken to an unknown destination. It is known that there are even people who have undergone this “re-education”, but then managed to leave.

The Crimean Tatar Resource Centre strongly condemns such actions of the Russian Federation and calls on the world to increase pressure on the occupying state to preserve the lives of Ukrainians in the occupied territories.
