President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed Law No. 11484, which
brings the Criminal Code of Ukraine in line with the Rome Statute of
the International Criminal Court.

Liudmyla Korotkikh, lawyer of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center,
explained what this means.

“The adoption of this law is a purely bureaucratic, but important step, because we are bringing our domestic legislation in line with international standards. In particular, this will greatly simplify not only communication at the procedural level, but also in general, because now the definitions and concepts in our national legislation are in line with the generally accepted ones,” – she explained.

In addition, according to Liudmyla, this is a positive step in ensuring justice for the victims of Russian aggression, as now the national investigation will be conducted in accordance with international practice, which means that all the collected materials will be best suited for the purposes of international proceedings, whether at the ICC, a specially created tribunal, or any other court.
