The UN Human Rights Committee has recognized that imposing of Russian citizenship on Crimeans as discrimination. This is known from the report on human rights violations in Crimea over ten years of occupation by Russia of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, published on February 28.
The imposition of Russian citizenship, conviction for crimes committed before the occupation, the transfer of convicted Ukrainian citizens to the territory of Russia to serve their sentences constitute a violation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and constitute discriminatory treatment.
“This is the result of eight years of my life and the labor of a whole team of lawyers. I would especially like to note the contribution of the European Human Rights Advocacy Center at the communication stage,”- lawyer Sergiy Zayets wrote on his Facebook page.
