On Wednesday, 9 October, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk met with the Crimean Tatar delegation from Turkey and Romania, as well as with representatives of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people.
In particular, Eskender Bariiev, Chairman of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, Head of the Department of External Relations and Human Rights Activities of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, joined the meeting.
‘Ukraine has always demonstrated a special attitude towards the Crimean Tatar people, who have the official status of an indigenous people in our country. He also emphasised that the basis for the establishment of peace is the Formula of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, which provides for the complete withdrawal of Russian occupation troops from the sovereign territories of Ukraine, including Crimea,’ Ruslan Stefanchuk noted on his Facebook page.
The VRU Speaker stressed that the Ukrainian Parliament had appealed to the governments and parliaments of foreign states to recognise the deportation of Crimean Tatars from Crimea in 1944 as an act of genocide of the Crimean Tatar people.
We shall remind you that on 8 October, a delegation of Crimean Tatar dernecks from Turkey, members of the World Congress of Crimean Tatars, headed by the chairman of the Platform of Crimean Tatar Organisations of Turkey, Ümit Şilit, came to Kyiv on a two-day visit.
