February 27, 2023

The wife of political prisoner Timur Yalkabov, Aliie Muzhdabaieva, wrote a complaint to the prosecutor’s office, the public monitoring commission for human rights and the commissioner of the GUFSIN about the violation of his rights in the prison where he is being held. It is reported by the Crimean solidarity.

On February 12, Aliie received a letter from her husband through ZonaTelecom. Timur Yalkabov wrote that he was in a punishment cell. He also said that prison officials ignore his rights and the rights of other prisoners, and do not send or record the complaints they write.

“The staff allowed themselves insulting remarks about the prisoners, and when they tried to express indignation, they used physical force. Within one week, for the purpose of moral pressure, the officers searched the cell several times, while they did not find anything illegal, but simply confiscated the personal belongings of the prisoners without a description”,- said Aliie Muzhdabaieva.

On February 22, his wife received another letter in which Timur said that his stay in the punishment cell had been extended for 15 days. The reasons were not given. This is despite the fact that Timur is an asthmatic and has a disability of the third group.

“Having learned about this, I immediately called the head of the detachment, but he did not explain why my husband had his punishment cell term extended,- said Aliie Muzhdabaieva.

On February 9, Timur Yalkabov was taken to the punishment cell for 12 days.

We remind you that on March 22, 2022, the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don announced the verdict to Timur Yalkabov. He was sentenced to 17 years in prison with the first 4 years in prison.
