Three Crimean Tatar political prisoners had their house arrest extended

April 20, 2023

Yesterday, on April 19, the Southern District Military Court extended the arrest of Alim Sufianov, Seyran Khayretdynov and Oleksandr Syzykov for three months. It is reported by the Crimean solidarity.

The defense debate did not take place because two judges from the panel did not appear due to need to know.

“From February 1, 2023, the defense moved on to debate the case. To date, the debate is not over yet, the last court session was postponed due to the fact that Oleksandr Syzykov was in the hospital and was undergoing inpatient treatment”,- lawyer Lilia Hemedzhi said.

Despite the fact that Oleksandr Syzykov has a disability of the first group, his arrest was extended until July 20 – he will be in the pre-trial detention center for the same time as Alim Sufianov and Seyran Khayretdynov.

“After that, the stage of the last word will come, where all our clients will speak, and then the court will go to the conference room to make a final court decision”,- Hemedzhi said.

Judicial debate has been scheduled for April 24.

We remind you that on July 7, Russian security forces conducted mass searches in the homes of Crimean Tatars in the Bakhchysarai, Krasnohvardiiske and Simferopol regions of the occupied Crimea. On July 7, the Kyiv District Court of Simferopol placed Oleksandr Syzykov, a disabled person of the first group, under house arrest. On July 8, the Kyiv District Court of the occupied Crimea chose a measure of restraint for Ismet Ibrahimov, Zekiria Muratov, Vadym Bektymyrov, Emil Ziyadynov, Alim Sufianov and Seyran Khayretdynov in the form of detention.
