The whereabouts of Ervin Ibragimov, kidnapped in the occupied Crimea, remains unknown for 7 years.

May 24, 2023

For the seventh year now, the whereabouts of Ervin Ibragimov, a member of the executive board of the World Congress of Crimean Tatars, who was forcibly kidnapped on May 24, 2016 in Bakhchysarai in the occupied Crimea, remains unknown.

The activist’s father believes that Ervin’s kidnapping was pre-planned and carried out by state bodies of the Russian Federation. It is significant that for seven years there has been no progress in the investigation of the case by the occupying law enforcement agencies, and the guy’s whereabouts remain unknown.

We sincerely hope that Erwin will be found and will return home to his parents!

It should be reminded that on May 24 at 10:20 p.m. on the bypass road of the city of Bakhchysarai, his car was stopped by unknown persons (presumably traffic police officers). After that, he was forcibly pushed into a minibus, he tried to escape, but he was caught and thrown into a car that drove towards the Bakhchysarai reservoir, through a forest belt. Ervin’s kidnapping was caught on a security camera.

The so-called Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Republic of Crimea opened a criminal case under paragraph a, c part 2 of Art. 126 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (kidnapping), but there is no information about Ervin’s whereabouts.

In May of this year, the Kyiv District Court of Simferopol dismissed the complaint of the lawyer Emil Kurbedinov to the investigating authorities regarding his inquiries in the case of the kidnapping of Ervin Ibragimov.

The father of the activist, Umer Ibragimov, said that his son openly expressed his position on the illegality of the seizure of Crimea by Russia and participated in protecting the rights and supporting the Crimean Tatars repressed by Russia. In 2014, as a sign of protest, Ervin Umerov resigned from the civil service in the Bakhchysarai district administration and repeatedly received verbal threats from the FSB, his friends and acquaintances witnessed the threats.
