The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has published a report on the human rights situation in Ukraine.
This 36th periodic report focusing on Ukraine covers the period from 1 February to 31 July 2023.
The authors of the document described how Russian authorities continue to violate people’s rights in occupied Crimea. In particular, the report notes an increase in detentions and arrests in the case of discrimination against the RF AF.
The UN noted the systemic failure to provide adequate medical care to political prisoners, as a result of which 2 deaths were recorded in Russian prisons.
OHCHR called on the Russian Federation:
– stop recruiting protected persons living in the occupied territory, in particular in Crimea, into their armed forces, as well as any intimidation, threats and other pressure or propaganda aimed at ensuring their supposedly voluntary entry into the armed forces;
– respect and protect the fundamental rights of all individuals and groups in the occupied parts of Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Luhansk and Donetsk regions, as well as in Crimea, in particular the rights to freedom of thought and expression, peaceful assembly, association, conscience and religion.
