April 5, 2023

On April 4, the UN Human Rights Council adopted a resolution condemning Russia’s violation of human rights in Ukraine, as well as the deportation of children from the temporarily occupied territories.

28 out of 47 members of the UN Human Rights Council voted in favor of the resolution, 17 abstained.

Russia’s largest geopolitical ally, Eritrea, like China, voted no.

Separately, the document calls on Russia to stop the illegal forced transfer and deportation of civilians and other persons under protection within Ukraine or to the Russian Federation, respectively, in particular, children.

Moscow is required to provide humanitarian organizations with unhindered, immediate, long-term and safe access to the deported Ukrainians, as well as reliable and comprehensive information about their number and whereabouts.
