The responsibility for discrediting the SMO wil be will tightened in the Russian Federation

On Wednesday, March 1, Speaker of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin announced amendments to the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. According to the new amendments, the criminal liability for discrediting the SMO may increase from three to 15 years in prison.

“Any public dissemination of deliberately false information, as well as public actions aimed at discrediting the RF Armed Forces, volunteer units, organizations and individuals that assist in the fulfillment of the tasks assigned to the RF Armed Forces, are unacceptable”,- Volodin said.

Now, this article provides for a fine of up to 5 million rubles, forced labor for up to 5 years, or real imprisonment for up to 15 years.
