The occupation authorities report that the Khan’s Palace in Bakhchysarai will be closed to the public until July 31 in connection with the implementation of technologically complex work to dismantle the structures of the metal canopy over the main building of the palace.
We remind you that for the sixth year, at the initiative of the occupation authorities of Crimea, the so-called restoration work of the Khan’s Palace in Bakhchysarai has been ongoing, which threatens the historical and cultural authenticity of the monument of Crimean Tatar architecture.
Crimean Tatar activists and human rights activists have repeatedly stated that under the guise of restoration work the occupants are destroying the complex. So, as a result of the works, elements of cultural heritage were destroyed – wooden roof structures, floor beams, cross beams, wall paintings, stained-glass windows and much more.
In March 2018, the Zaliznodorizhnyy District Court of Simferopol refused to accept a lawsuit demanding that the restoration of the Khan’s Palace be stopped. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said that the actions of the Russian authorities on the peninsula pose a threat to the cultural heritage of the Crimean Tatar people.
