On October 22, it became known that at the request of the “Ministry of
Justice” of Crimea, the occupation “court” decided to liquidate the
independent Muslim community of Alushta. This was reported by lawyer
Rustem Kamilev in a comment to Crimean Solidarity.
The lawsuit was based on the fact that the community allegedly
untimely expelled from its ranks its former leaders, Lenur Khalilov
and Ruslan Mesutov, who were convicted of participating in Hizb
ut-Tahrir. The Ministry of Justice also demanded the expulsion of
Ruslan Emirvaliyev, who was accused of “propagating extremist
symbols”. Representatives of the department noted that this became
possible only after an official warning.
In addition, the lawyer said that the community was accused of
“disseminating extremist materials” after searches in the Yukary-Dzhami
mosque, when books were seized, which led to a fine of 100 thousand
rubles.
“We claimed that the persecution of the Alushta religious community is
a violation of the International Covenant on Human Rights to freedom
of religion. However, the ‘court’ was not interested in this,” – said
Kamilev.
He also emphasized that the decision of the occupation “court” will be
appealed to the ECHR and the UN Human Rights Committee, as he believes
that the community was liquidated by order of the
government-controlled Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Crimea.
