The head of the Armiansk City Court was sentenced to 10 years for violating the laws and customs of war. It is reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
Despite the fact that the inhabitants of the occupied Crimea have the status of people under the protection of international law, the judge illegally decided to expel a citizen of Ukraine from the territory of the peninsula. This sentence was justified by non-compliance with the rules for staying on the territory of the Russian Federation, however, no additional permissions from the administration for Ukrainians to live in the occupied Crimea are provided by law.
This is a serious violation of Art. 49 of the Convention for the Protection of Civilians. It states that it is prohibited to carry out any resettlement or deportation of persons from the occupied territory.
“This is the first sentence in Ukraine for the deportation of the civilian population from the occupied peninsula. A kind of precedent in the national legal system”,- said Ihor Ponochovnyy, head of the Crimean prosecutor’s office.
