The Kyiv district court in Aqmescit (Simferopol) extended the arrest of Remzi Nimetulaiev, Eldar Yakubov, Abdulmedzhit Seitumerov, Ametkhan Umerov, Ruslan Asanov and Seidamet Mustafaiev in pre-trial detention for three months. Crimean Solidarity reports this.
According to human rights activist Emil Kurbedinov, during the consideration of the case, statements were made by FSB officers that the defendants could escape or influence the course of the investigation, which were in no way supported by evidence.
“The court once again, without accepting the well-founded arguments of the defense, extended the period of detention in the pre-trial detention center until April of this year”,- said Kurbedinov.
The defense intends to appeal this decision.
In addition, the lawyer said that no investigative actions have been carried out on the defendants for more than two months, but they have been in pre-trial detention center 2 of the city of Aqmescit (Simferopol) all this time. At the same time, the conditions of detention in this pre-trial detention center, as reported by Abdulmedzhyt, are unsatisfactory, in particular, there is a rude attitude of the staff towards political prisoners – for a long time he has not been able to obtain the transfer of the Koran to him.
Let us recall that on August 24 at four in the morning, Russian security forces broke into the houses of six Crimean Tatars – Seidamet Mustafaiev, Eldar Yakubov, Abdulmedzhyt Seitumerov, Ruslan Asanov, Ametkhan Umerov and Remzi Nimetulaiev.
It is known that Remzi Nimetulaiev and Ruslan Asanov were charged under part one of Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, and Ametkhan Umerov – under part two. The activists do not admit guilt.
