The new board of ICOM Germany has unanimously decided to boycott ICOM Russia and remove representatives of the Russian national committee from all international organizations and no longer allow Russian delegations or members to events.
In addition, the Council of German Museums demands to exclude ICOM Russia from the world association until further notice.
“Russia’s war of conquest against Ukraine mocks international law, the Hague Convention and every basic social norm. There can be no normal relations with such a state, even in the museum sphere. We cannot be a tribune for the Russian flag and we cannot be guests under the same roof”,- said ICOM Germany’s board of directors.
Recall that on December 15, 2022, the CTRC appealed to the cultural and scientific institutions of all civilized countries with an appeal:
– stop any cooperation with similar institutions of the occupying country;
– Establish a Commission for the Return of Cultural Property from the Temporarily Occupied Territories in accordance with the provisions of Article 5 of the 1954 Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict;
– not to participate in any cultural and scientific-cultural events held by parties associated with Russia;
— not to transfer objects of cultural heritage to Russian museums for holding any events;
– not to introduce into scientific circulation any research that was carried out in violation of the norms of international law on the protection and preservation of cultural heritage;
– to take all necessary measures to return to Ukraine all cultural heritage objects that were stolen by the occupiers from the temporarily occupied territories and ended up on the territory of third countries.
