Six members of the religious organization Jehovah’s Witnesses will be tried in Crimea. This was reported by the Russian media Crimea 24 with reference to the occupation law enforcement agencies.
In Aqmescit (Simferopol) and Aqmescit (Simferopol) district, Russian security forces conducted more than 30 searches and interrogated more than 250 witnesses.
“A significant amount of religious literature with signs of extremist content, computer equipment, funds, documentation and business journals were seized, indicating the cell’s illegal activities and collection of donations”,- the report says.
Russian security officials say that a resident of Ermeni-Bazar (Armiansk) and five other activists held meetings at which banned literature was discussed, ways of distributing it, donations were collected, reporting was generated and finances were distributed for the needs of the organization.
“In the last six months, there has been a tightening of both the actual terms requested by the state prosecution and the sentences themselves. The courts agree to the terms requested by the prosecutor’s office, or impose a sentence not much lower. In Crimea, the situation is aggravated by the close presence of military conflict and the general atmosphere of intolerance”,- he noted.
