July 25, 2024

Crimean Tatar activist, citizen journalist, Seyran Saliiev was transferred to ‘severe conditions of serving the sentence’

This was reported by the wife of the political prisoner, Mumine Saliieva via her Facebook

Since the end of June 2024, the woman had no contact with her husband.

‘He did not call via prison connection Zonatelecom , my letters were not answered,’ – said the woman.

Saliieva repeatedly wrote appeals and letters addressed to the management of the colony, and today received a reply – her husband allegedly ‘committed a malicious violation of the established order of serving the sentence, stipulated by Part 2 of Article 116 of the Penal Enforcement Code of the Russian Federation in connection with which 21.06.2024 by the decision of the commission of the institution was recognised as malicious transferred to strict conditions of serving the sentence’

We would like to remind that Seyran Saliiev is held in penal colony 4 of the Tula region, serving a 15-year prison sentence in a fabricated case.

The wife of the political prisoner regards these actions as pressure exerted on Saliiev.

‘There is an exclusively political motive and order in fabricating the criminal case against Seyran, which continues to be implemented even after the verdict, and the law will be used as a tool of pressure and crimes,’ the wife added.

Saliieva also called on fellow journalists to write about this case, experts and human rights defenders to record and document violations of the rights of political prisoners, mentors, embassies, international institutions, platforms and committees to create platforms and talk about repressive methods and forms of crimes against the Crimean Tatar people.
