Russian soldier convicted of fleeing from service in Crimea

March 30, 2023

The contractor was sentenced to 9 years in a strict regime colony for leaving a military unit in Simferopol. This was reported by the press service of the Crimean garrison military court.

On January 25, the man was detained at the place of residence.

“The military court found that one day in September 2022, being a contract serviceman, in order to completely evade the performance of military service duties and not wanting to do military service, he arbitrarily left the military unit in Sevastopol and began to live on the territory of the Republic of Crimea”,- the press release said.

The man explained his action by the fact that he does not want to participate in the war of Russia against Ukraine. He was found guilty under Part 3 of Art. 338 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (desertion).

We remind you that the Russian courts have already received 536 cases against military personnel, of which 471 are unauthorized abandonment of the unit.

In November last year, the CTRC launched the information campaign Grave Mobilization. It informs about how to avoid conscription and mobilization, as well as about those involved in these illegal activities.
