In Russia and in the occupied territories of Ukraine, “presidential elections” have begun, which will last three days – from 15 to 17 March inclusive.
Four candidates are registered for the election – Vladimir Putin, Leonid Slutsky of the LDPR, Nikolai Kharitonov of the Communist Party of Russia, and Vladislav Davankov of the New people party. But, of course, there is no doubt who will get the so-called “victory”.
What is the situation like in the occupied Crimea?
On the peninsula, the Russians have started going round people’s flats in advance and “strongly” inviting them to the rf presidential election.
The Chairman of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Centre, member of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Eskender Bariiev previously stated that in the occupied territories the Russians started to intimidate people in advance of the “elections”, first of all those who depend on some social payments. The occupants instruct employees of municipal or state institutions to come to the “polling station” and make sure to take a photo and send it as a report.
The same information was confirmed by an education worker on the peninsula in the comment to “Suspilne Krim”.
“We were all warned that we must go and vote in the elections, so that there are no problems at work. After voting, we have to call the supervisor in our educational institution and report that we voted. We are not told to vote for anyone in particular. The main thing is to create a turnout, because people don’t want to go to the polls”,- he reported.
Moreover, the low turnout is also confirmed by activists of the public resistance movement “Yellow Ribbon” on their Telegram channel.
The Crimean Tatar Resource Centre notes the illegitimacy of such actions of Russia and calls on all residents of the occupied territories to refuse to participate in this meeting.
The entire civilised world does not recognise the results of this “vote”. Thus, parliamentarians from 20 countries made a statement that the holding by Russia of the so-called “elections” of the President in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine was a violation of international law and that the international community would never recognise their results.
