Russian military man convicted of desertion

December 19, 2023

The Omsk court sentenced Maxim Vykhorev to 6.5 years in a maximum security colony for desertion. The Russian media Mediazona writes about this.

According to the court, in February 2023, 25-year-old Vykhorev left his military unit in Omsk without permission. In July, he was detained by the military commandant’s office and taken to the military investigative department in the Omsk garrison, from where he escaped, hiding from the convoy. That same day he was caught trying to swim across the river.

In court, the defendant said that he did not intend to evade military service, but decided to go into hiding as soon as he learned about the case brought against him for desertion.

We remind you that the Crimean Tatar Resource Center last year launched an information campaign “Grave Mobilization”, within the framework of which residents of Crimea are informed about the consequences of participating in the war on the side of the Russian Federation, how they can avoid mobilization, what to do if they receive a summons, how to travel to third countries and the like.
