The Russian-controlled Kyiv District Court of Simferopol sentenced a Sevastopol resident to four years in prison for participation in the Noman Çelebicihan Crimean Tatar Volunteer Battalion.

“The defendant was engaged in ensuring the activities of the specified formation. At the same time, having a real opportunity to voluntarily terminate his participation in illegal armed formations, the suspect did not apply to law enforcement agencies with a statement about this, thereby continuing his criminal activity in participating in the battalion”,- the report says.

The man is said to have joined the battalion in 2016. A criminal case was initiated against him under Part 2 of Art. 208 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation – participation in an armed formation not provided for by federal law.
