CTRC posters for the 79th anniversary of the genocide of the Crimean Tatar people in Ternopil!

May 26, 2023

On May 18, 2022, the Crimean Tatar Resource Center launched an all-Ukrainian information and board campaign dedicated to the 79th anniversary of the genocide of the Crimean Tatar people.

All boards demonstrate to the Ukrainian society the terrible crimes of the Russian authorities against humanity, which are becoming systemic. The world did not condemn the genocide of the Crimean Tatar people in 1944, and this impunity gave rise to new crimes. Now the Russian Federation is carrying out genocide against the Ukrainian people.

Unfortunately, we see that in 79 years history repeats itself. On February 22, 2022, Moscow finally dropped the mask. The Russian Federation actually continues the practice of the Soviet Union, destroying the Ukrainian people, their language, culture, history and traditions. The Russian Federation commits massacres, abuses women, kills and kidnaps children, deports Ukrainians to Russian territory and robs houses in the same way as the Soviet government did in 1944.

Habits don’t change…

In total, 238,500 people were deported from the Crimea in 1944, 46.2% of all those deported died. Many people did not have the opportunity to live in their homeland, but now we are witnessing a full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine. More than 8,230 civilians have already died at the hands of the Russian military. More than 1.9 million citizens of Ukraine were taken to the territory of the Russian Federation. And more than 14 million Ukrainians went abroad.

We must stop this.

In the photo you can see the posters that are posted in Ternopil. Thanks to these boards, the residents of the city will learn more about the tragic history of 1944, as well as about the crimes of the Russian Federation that are being committed right now.

The genocide of 1944 should be condemned by the whole world, just like the genocide of the Ukrainian people!

The posters were developed by the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, activists of the international movement for the de-occupation of Crimea and solidarity with the Crimean Tatar people #LIBERATECRIMEA and Ukrainian artist Andrii Yermolenko.

The posters were presented by the Crimean Tatar Resource Center as part of its project implemented under the USAID/ENGAGE activity, which is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by Pact. The contents of the posters are the sole responsibility of Pact and its implementing partners and do not necessary reflect the views of USAID or the United States Government. .
