CTRC will tell OSCE about discrimination in Russia-occupied territories of Ukraine

On Tuesday, June 27 at 9:00, in Vienna, the Crimean Tatar Resource Center will hold a side event on the topic ” The Role of Civil Society in the Promotion and Protection of Tolerance and Non-Discrimination:  within the framework of OSCE Supplementary Human Dimension Meeting III.

During the event, speakers will talk about the activities of civil society structures against the policy of discrimination, which has been carried out in Russia-occupied Crimea since 2014 and in Russia-occupied southern Ukraine since 2022. In addition, cases and lawsuits initiated and carried out by the Crimean Tatar Resource Center and partner organizations will be highlighted, as well as examples of assistance to victims of discrimination, including representatives of the indigenous Crimean Tatar people.

Topics to be covered:

1.The discriminatory policy of the Russian occupation authorities towards the indigenous Crimean Tatar people: the ban of the representative body – the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, persecution of activists, violation of linguistic and cultural rights;

2.Discrimination in Russia-occupied territories: hate speech, access to information, property issues;

3.Ecocide as a tool of Russian discriminatory policy in the occupied territories;

 4.The contribution of civil society to the fight against discrimination in the territories occupied by Russia: advocacy, human rights and legal activities;

5.Ukrainian programs on deoccupation and reintegration of Crimea: mechanisms of countering discrimination.
