Crimean political prisoner and civic journalist Remzi Bekirov was transferred from prison No. 2 in Yeniseysk, Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia, to penal colony No. 33, located in the capital of the Republic of Khakassia – the city of Abakan. This was reported by the ‘Crimean solidarity’.
We would like to remind that on 27 March 2019, Russian security forces in the occupied Crimea conducted mass searches in 26 houses of the Crimean Tatars. As a result, 20 people suspected of involvement in the activities of organisation ‘Hizb ut-Tahrir’ banned in Russia were detained.
Subsequently, the arrests of political prisoners were repeatedly extended, and some of them have already been sentenced. Thus, Remzi Bekirov was sentenced to 19 years in prison by a Russian court. The first 5 years he must serve in prison, and the other time – in a strict regime penal colony with a restriction of 1 year 6 months.
