Political prisoner Marlen Mustafayev was transferred to the Ulyanovsk region

October 19, 2023

In the first half of October, illegally convicted Ukrainian citizen Marlen Mustafayev was transferred to prison 1 in the city of Dimitrov, Ulyanovsk region. The relatives of the prisoner reported this to the Crimean Tatar Resource Center.

September 21 to Marlen, who at that time was in a pre-trial detention center in Novocherkassk, Rostov region, was given a copy of the decision of the Military Court of Appeal (Vlasikha village, Moscow region), and the next day he was transferred to the Ulyanovsk region. For some time, his relatives did not know where exactly he was, and only almost a month later they managed to find out that he was serving an illegal sentence in the so-called correctional colony 1 of the city of Dimitrov, Ulyanovsk region.

We remind you that Marlen Mustafayev, who has two minor children, was illegally detained by the occupation authorities in the city of Bilohirsk, occupied Crimea, on February 9, 2022. During a search of his home, Russian law enforcement officers took away and did not return his wife’s Ukrainian passport.

On November 30, 2022, the Southern District Military Court (Rostov-on-Don, Russian Federation) criminally sentenced him for allegedly organizing terrorist activities (Part 1, Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and preparation for a violent seizure of power (Part 1. Article 30, Article 278 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) to 17 years of imprisonment in a maximum security colony, of which the first 3 years he will be in prison.

The occupiers, as always, used fabricated evidence: hidden witnesses who were constantly confused in their words; linguistic expertise of Marlene’s voice, which they took from unknown where; testimony of employees of the occupying law enforcement agencies.

On August 7, 2022, the Military Court of Appeal reduced the term of imprisonment by 4 months: to 16 years 8 months imprisonment.

The Crimean Tatar Resource Center strongly condemns the occupiers’ repression against Ukrainian citizens in the temporarily occupied territories and demands the immediate release of all political prisoners.

We call on the international community to make every effort to bring all war criminals to justice.
