Political prisoner Enver Omerov was escorted from Vladimir prison

July 26, 2024

Figurant of the Belogirsk ‘Hizb ut-Tahrir case’ Enver Omerov, who was previously subjected to 18 years of imprisonment, was transferred from the prison number 2 in Vladimir.

According to ‘Crimean Solidarity’, the political prisoner called his family through the connection ‘ZonaTelecom’ and reported that he is now in transit in pre-trial detention centre No. 19 in Kazan. On 3 August, he is planned to be sent by stage to a high-security colony in the city of Mari El.

We would like to remind that on 10 June 2019, Russian security forces conducted mass searches in the homes of Crimean Tatars in Alushta, Belogirsk and Simferopol. As a result, 8 people were detained on suspicion of involvement in the Hizb ut-Tahrir organisation banned in the Russian Federation. On 10 and 11 June, the Kyiv district ‘court’ of Simferopol elected a measure of restraint in the form of detention for the Crimean Tatars detained after the searches – Riza Omerov, Enver Omerov, Ayder Dzhepparov, Eskender Suleymanov, Ruslan Nagaev, Eldar Kantimirov, Ruslan Mensutov and Lenur Khalilov. Subsequently, the occupants repeatedly extended the measure of restraint for political prisoners. On 12 January 2021, the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced Enver Omerov to 18 years, Aider Dzhepparov to 17 years, and Riza Omerov to 13 years in prison.
