September 23, 2024

On 12 September, political prisoner Eldar Kantimirov informed his family about the possible transfer to the Republic of Buryatia from prison No. 1 in Dmitrovgrad, Ulyanovsk region. This was reported by ‘Crimean Solidarity’

According to Eldar himself, he is being transported to Buryatia, which is 7,000 kilometres away from Alushta, ‘in retaliation for defending his rights during his time in prison and denying violation of rights in the court,’ – Eldar Kantimirov wrote in a letter.

‘My applications for a meeting with representatives of the administration were ignored. I have heard rumours that this is because of my status as a political prisoner and my activity in defending my rights and legality,’ –  the political prisoner added.

In the letter, the political prisoner, unfortunately, did not provide details about the date of transport and the number of the colony in Buryatia.

Recall that on 10 and 11 June the Kyiv district ‘court’ of Simferopol elected a measure of restraint in the form of detention until 5 August detained after searches Crimean Tatars – Riza Omerov, Enver Omerov, Aider Dzhepparov, Eskender Suleymanov, Ruslan Nagaev, Eldar Kantimirov, Ruslan Mensutov and Lenur Khalilov. Subsequently, they were repeatedly extended the detention period.

On 16 August 2021, the final ‘court session’ in the ‘Hizb ut-Tahrir case’ was held in the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don. Lenur Khalilov, Ruslan Mesutov, Ruslan Nagaev, Eldar Kantemirov were announced the ‘verdict’. All defendants in the case received sentences from 18 to 12 years of imprisonment.

The Crimean Tatar Resource Center calls on the international community and international human rights organizations to increase pressure on the Russian Federation and the occupation authorities of Crimea to stop political persecution and cancel earlier court decisions.
