Political prisoner Aziz Akhtemov was taken to a detention center in Novosibirsk region after being transferred

October 24, 2024

Crimean Tatar political prisoner Aziz Akhtemov, who had been held for
more than a month and a half, was brought to SIZO-1 in the Novosibirsk
region. Prior to that, he was held in prison №2 in Yeniseisk, Krasnoyarsk region. Before his transfer, the prison administration did not allow him to buy food. Aziz informed about this in a letter to his wife Adile Akhtemova, Crimean Solidarity writes.

According to him, the Novosibirsk pre-trial detention center is not
the final destination of his stage, and soon he will be transferred to
a penal colony. However, as Akhtemov notes, he is not informed of the
exact destination.

All this time, since I left the prison, I was taken from one place to another and back. Thus, I could not write a letter, because it does not work in the transit points where I was sent. And there was also a problem with food – I could not buy anything because I was in transit,” – Aziz Akhtemov wrote.

Akhtemov also said that before the transfer, he planned to take some
food from a parcel from his cellmate’s relatives, but this did not
happen due to the sudden transfer.

“Before I left, I went and talked to them, and they seemed to agree that I should stay and buy some food, but in the end I left  without any shopping. I had about 10 pieces of doshiraki and some coffee. That was it. And it was all over in a week. I don’t know how much I weigh, but at the time of September 16, I weighed 77 kilograms. But then I had little food and ate in the morning and evening,”- the political prisoner said.

He also added that he was not able to go for walks during the stage
and was forced to stay in his cell.

As a reminder, on September 3-4, 2021, searches were conducted in the
houses of Crimean Tatars Eldar Odamanov, Aziz Akhtemov, Shevket
Useinov, Asan Akhtemov and Nariman Dzhelial in the occupied Crimea. The
security forces seized the equipment and took the me..n with them. Later
it became known that Nariman Dzhelial and his cousins Aziz and Asan
Akhtemov were suspected of aiding and abetting the sabotage. The
occupiers claim that they are involved in the damage to the gas
pipeline in the village of Perevalne, Simferopol district of Crimea.

On September 21, 2022, the Supreme “court” of Crimea announced Aziz
Akhtemov’s sentence – 13 years in a strict regime colony with a fine
of 500 thousand rubles and a one-year restriction of liberty.
