Political prisoner Appaz Kurtamet sentenced

April 21, 2023

On Friday, April 21, the Kyiv district court of Sevastopol announced the verdict for political prisoner Appaz Kurtamet.

The occupants sentenced the man to 7 years in prison.

We remind you that Appaz Kurtamet was accused of financing a terrorist organization under Art. 208 p. 1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. According to investigators, he lent 500 hryvnias to his friend, who, as Appaz found out after the money transfer, serves in the Noman Çelebicihan Crimean Tatar Volunteer Battalion.

It should be noted that the accusations in this case are based on the testimony of hidden witnesses and the conclusion of so-called experts who actively cooperate with the Russian security forces. The case was considered in gross violation of international law.

The Crimean Tatar Resource Center strongly protests and states that this decision is illegal, politically motivated and criminal. Such a policy of the Russian Federation is a demonstration of the fight against the political convictions of citizens in the occupied Crimea.

The Crimean Tatar Resource Center demands that the sentence of the person involved in the case be annulled and that other political prisoners be released immediately.
