Political prisoner Amet Suleymanov’s health condition is deteriorating

Crimean Tatar political prisoner and civic journalist Amet Suleymanov, sentenced to 12 years in prison, has serious problems with blood pressure. This was reported by his wife Lilya Lyumanova in a comment for ‘QIRIM.News’.

The woman of the political prisoner noted that her husband suffers from various ailments, in particular, suffers from blood pressure problems, which are aggravated by the change of weather.

Amet Suleymanov suffers from arterial and mitral heart failure and is awaiting heart valve replacement surgery. In August, his wife visited him in Russia’s ‘Vladimir Central prison’   and spoke to the head of the medical service, who confirmed that Amet needed the operation. However, there is still no answer about the date of the operation from the Moscow hospital.

‘Two weeks ago, I again sent all the medicines he indicated in his application. I am waiting for the result, whether they will be accepted,’ added Lilya Lyumanova.

We will remind, on 11 March 2020 in the house of Amet Suleymanov was searched, during which the FSB officers conducted similar activities at several other Crimean Tatars. The occupation court in Simferopol assigned him house arrest, accusing him of ‘participation in the activities of a terrorist organisation’. Amet Suleymanov is considered to be involved in the Hizb ut-Tahrir organisation banned in the Russian Federation, which operates on the territory of Ukraine and other countries.

On 29 October 2021, the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced him to 12 years in prison. Until 5 April 2023, he was under house arrest due to health problems, after which Russian law enforcers transferred him to pre-trial detention center No. 2 in Simferopol, and then to ‘Vladimirsky Central’.
